16 Years Clinical Diabetes Experience DAFNE-Trained Registered Dietitian
Mō Wai — Who this is for

Living with diabetes shouldn't mean guessing at every meal.

Whether you've just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you're managing type 1 alongside training or a busy job, or you're supporting a family member through it — good nutrition guidance makes day-to-day life genuinely easier, not more restrictive. This isn't about a rigid diet sheet; it's about understanding your own numbers, your own food, and building an approach that holds up on a real Tuesday, not just in theory.

With around 16 years of continuous clinical diabetes experience — including 12 years as a specialist diabetes dietitian at Waitemata DHB — sessions go beyond generic advice, into the specifics of insulin-to-carbohydrate ratios and day-to-day flexibility around food, activity, and routine.

Nga Ratonga — What's included

Practical, evidence-based diabetes support

Carbohydrate Counting

Practical, real-world carb counting tailored to your meals — not a generic exchange list you'll abandon in a week.

CGM Interpretation

Making sense of your continuous glucose monitor data and connecting the dots between food, activity, and your trends.

Insulin Regimes & Pump Support

Practical, evidence-based guidance on insulin-to-carbohydrate ratios and pump support — matching your food and activity to your actual insulin needs.

Weight & Diabetes Together

For anyone managing type 2 diabetes and weight goals at the same time — the two done properly, in one plan, not two conflicting ones.

Sports Nutrition + Diabetes

Training with type 1 or type 2 diabetes brings its own fuelling questions — this is where sports and clinical nutrition genuinely meet.

GP Referral & Reporting

Clear clinical documentation and communication back to your GP or diabetes nurse, so your whole care team stays aligned.

Te Turanga Putaiao — The evidence base

Guided by New Zealand's actual clinical standards

Every recommendation is grounded in recognised New Zealand and international diabetes guidelines — not generic internet advice. This means what you're given reflects current best practice, and fits alongside whatever your GP or diabetes nurse is already managing.

He Patai — Common Questions

Questions people usually ask first

Do I need a GP referral to see you for diabetes?
Not necessarily — you're welcome to book directly as a private client. If your GP refers you and you'd like to check whether any funding applies to your situation, that's worth raising directly with your GP or practice nurse.
Do you work with type 1 as well as type 2 diabetes?
Yes. Support looks different depending on which you're managing — carb counting and insulin-to-carb ratios are often central for type 1, while type 2 support frequently also involves weight and broader dietary pattern work — but both are core parts of what's covered here.
Can you help me interpret my CGM (continuous glucose monitor) data?
Yes — connecting your glucose trends to what you're actually eating and doing day-to-day is a regular part of sessions for clients using a CGM.
I'm also trying to lose weight — can that be managed alongside diabetes?
Yes, and it's a common combination. The two goals are managed together in one coherent plan, rather than treated as separate, conflicting priorities.
Where are you located?
Henderson, New Lynn, and Takapuna, plus online consultations available anywhere in New Zealand. See the Locations page for full details on each clinic.
