What's the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?
A Registered Dietitian holds a protected title in New Zealand, requiring a university degree and post-graduate clinical training. Nutritionists are unregulated — anyone can use the title. As a Registered Dietitian, Hamish operates under professional standards and accountability that nutritionists are not subject to.
Do you offer telehealth / online consultations?
Yes — most consultations happen online via video call or phone. This makes it easy to access Hamish's services from anywhere in New Zealand or internationally. In-person options are available in Henderson, New Lynn, and Takapuna for those who prefer face-to-face.
How does the free discovery call work?
It's a 15-minute phone or video chat — completely free, no obligation. You tell Hamish about your goals and situation, he'll explain how he works, and you both decide whether it's a good fit. No hard sell. If he can help you, great. If not, he'll say so.
Can you help with both diabetes and sport nutrition?
Absolutely. Hamish is one of very few practitioners with 12 years of specialist diabetes clinical experience AND 11+ years of sports nutrition practice. Athletes with Type 1 diabetes especially benefit from this dual expertise — managing blood glucose while optimising for performance is a niche Hamish understands deeply.
Do you work with Māori and Pasifika clients?
Yes — and Hamish's whakapapa to Te Rarawa means he understands the cultural dimensions of food and health for Māori and Pasifika whānau. Plans respect cultural kai traditions and don't require erasing your food identity. Te reo Māori is welcome in all consultations.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals. Some clients need 2–3 sessions to get on track; others prefer ongoing monthly check-ins for accountability. For sport nutrition around a specific event or race, the 8 or 12-week performance packages offer structured support. You're never locked into a programme — flexibility is important.
Can I get a meal plan on the first session?
Yes — the initial 50-minute consultation includes a detailed assessment and a personalised plan. Depending on your goals, this may include meal planning, nutritional targets, food swap advice, and specific sport or medical nutrition protocols. You'll leave with actionable guidance, not just a chat.
Do you have evening or weekend appointments?
Yes. Hamish understands that most people work during the day and that life is full. Evening and weekend slots are available. Book online to see current availability, or send a message if you have specific timing requirements.
